Picking new roof types depends on what the homeowner wants with their style. From metal roofs to asphalt shingles to cedar wood, there are different types of roofing with different benefits and maintenance needs.
Home remodeling projects need a little give and take to be successful. Especially if it?s a joint effort from the homeowners and the contractors, with one side dreaming one price and style and the other seeing the reality of the cost and whether or not it can be done properly. From landscaping to exterior painting to roofing, any home improvement project falls in this category.
Let?s take a look at roofing, for example:
Roofing contractors specialize in constructing a host of roofing styles for homes and offices. Since roofs typically can last anywhere from 15 to 50 years on most homes, getting the right roof from the onset is pivotal. That?s why compromise and quality should be the main focus between homeowner and contractor. Homeowners shouldn?t overshoot the moon with price because they want expensive materials, while contractors should be upfront and take their time examining the condition of the home and whether or not one roof type is too heavy on the infrastructure, or if there is too much sunlight that hits the home in general.
That being said, here are three of the most popular roofing styles out there, and how each might benefit one?s home remodeling project.
1. Asphalt Roofs: Probably the most popular type of roofing out there, it?s also one of the easiest to maintain after it?s been laid. These shingles aren?t the most efficient at fully insulating the home, but they are the most budget-friendly for homeowners to consider. Also, the asphalt shingles don?t resonate that well with an Eco-friendly way to recycle the materials after they?ve run its course, which can typically be anywhere from 15 to 30 years.
2. Metal Roofs: Where to begin? Metal roofing is hoping to start a trend of home fortification on a completely different level. For one, metal roofs are great insulators, often times reflecting solar radiant heat back into outer space without compromising the interior home temperatures too much. They are great for defending against severe weather, more so asphalt shingles do and have a greater lifespan, pretty much hovering around 50 years or more.
3. Wood (Cedar) Roofs: As aesthetics go, wood roof shingles are a great way to showcase the home, especially if the exterior has wooden boards already. Downsides might be that of all of the roofing types out there, these tend to be high-maintenance because of shingles that are more open to rotting, cracking and drying out, and are more at risk for fire because of their tendencies to dry and crack faster than others.
And with that, homeowners looking for a new roof can start going through the motions, mixing and matching styles versus cost and labor, and whatever else is involved pre and post construction. Just remember that compromising with a certain roof doesn?t mean that quality has to be sacrificed in the end.
