The school of Ocean and Earth Science at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS) are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual as a full-time Teaching Fellow who will contribute to the teaching and participate in teaching administration in relation to our programmes in Marine Biology. The position is for a period of up to 2 years, but a part-time appointment can be considered and there may be a possibility of extension. We have a preference for candidates with expertise in the fields of marine ecology, zoology, environmental physiology or phylogenetics.

You will provide support to the teaching objectives of the school by delivering teaching to students at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, through lectures, laboratory-based practicals, supervision of student projects and contributions to field teaching and, where appropriate, placements. You will also contribute to the efficient management and administration of the school by performing personal administrative duties including delivery of small group tutorials.

You will have a PhD in a marine biology (or related) subject and experience in a teaching environment by the time of appointment and a proven ability to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Applicants will also be expected to be actively involved in research, with a record of research publication, and to contribute to our postgraduate research training. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the design of course units, curriculum development and new teaching approaches in the School.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels with the ability to offer proactive advice and guidance.You should be able to communicate new and complex information effectively, both verbally and in writing, engaging the interest and enthusiasm of the target audience in courses relating to different aspects of Marine Biology.
