Whatmore denies rift with Mohammad Hafeez ? Cricket News Update

Dav Whatmore, the coach of the Pakistan cricket team, has denied the media reports about his alleged rift with the T20 captain, Mohammad Hafeez, and expressed that the reporters should behave in a more responsible manner.

Hafeez replaced Misbah-ul-Haq as the T20 skipper earlier this year and has been doing a reasonable job, leveling the T20 series in Sri Lanka, defeating Australia in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and qualifying for the semi-final of the ICC World T20 2012.

However, according to some media reports, Hafeez has a very authoritative approach, much to the displeasure of Whatmore and the senior players. Pakistan?s experienced all-rounder, Abdul Razzaq, lashed out at Hafeez last month for not playing him in the semi-final against Sri Lanka at Colombo.

Some of the journalists on Pakistan?s private television channels claimed that Whatmore and the senior players wanted the all-rounder to be in the team but Hafeez vetoed their opinion. As per a news agency, the coach has advised the PCB to change the T20 captain.

In a statement from England however, the former Australian cricketer has denied all such claims.

?I wish to clarify that I am currently not in Pakistan and have not given any interview or statement to any media. Neither have I submitted or discussed any such suggestion to any office in the PCB. The news item is totally incorrect and based on wrong intentions,? Whatmore stated.

Whatmore replaced Mohsin Hasan Khan as Pakistan?s coach earlier this year, immediately helping the Green Shirts win the Asia Cup 2012, held in Bangladesh.

The coach believes that the Pakistan team has been playing some brilliant cricket in recent times and such cases of irresponsible journalism can hamper their progress at the international level.

The former Australian cricketer is geared up for Pakistan?s upcoming tour of India and hopes for a good show there. The series will comprise of three One Day Internationals and a couple of T20s.

He mentioned, ?It is an attempt to demoralize the team when they are preparing for the all-important Indian tour. I consider this a case of irresponsible and below-standard reporting and regret its publication.?
