Day in history: Rochester Junior College fees are $35 for 12 credits

1987 ? 25 years ago

Fillmore County has become the first county in the state to make it mandatory for residents to separate recyclables from their garbage. Residents are also asked to wash and remove labels from tin cans.

The 103-year-old building which housed Roy?s Tavern in Theilman was demolished today. The Eggenberger family has owned the building for more than 100 years.

1962 ? 50 years ago

A High Mass in St. Marys Chapel marked the opening of the academic year for St. Marys School of Nursing. 138 new students have registered for the Class of 1965.

?The Music Man? starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones is being held over at the Chateau Theater.

Rochester Junior College will open its doors for classes with an expected fall quarter enrollment of 890 students. Tuition and fees will remain the same at $35 for 12 credits. The fee for less than 12 credits will be $3 per credit hour.

1937 ? 75 years ago

A new social welfare division was set up in Rochester with the transfer of Enoch Dison, patrolman, to juvenile officer with the police department. The new department is organized to assist in the work of preventing delinquency. Mr. Dison, who has been with the Rochester police department since 1929 will work with all juvenile cases and act as juvenile probation officer for the court.
